Study on microbial diversity of Salar de Uyuni

The composition of halophilic microbial communities in brines of the salar has not been studied yet. The athalassohaline Salar de Uyuni is of particular interest for microbiologists due to the extreme salt concentration and a very heterogeneous archaeal community. Additionally, the concentration of lithium is very high in some locations (up to several gram per liter).
