资源简介:
This digital archive contains images from a programme of archaeological investigation as part of the proposed renovation and drainage works at St Leonard's Church, Flamstead, Herts. In response to the requirements of a Diocesan Faculty, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the St Leonard's Church Parochial Church Council to undertake such works. It was considered that the present investigation had the potential to contribute to an understanding of the origins and development of the church and the settlement of Flamstead from the prehistoric period onwards. The present project revealed a square sunken structure in the north-eastern corner of the South Porch. Although no function could be assigned to this structure it appears to have been constructed in at least two phases, with the earliest phase, represented by the southern and western walls, possibly predating the construction of the porch in the 15th century.
