Anadrome salmonids – management regions

The data set shows management regions for anadromous salmonids. The management regions have been established as an instrument in the work on a population-oriented management, partly with a view to regulating fishing in the sea. The coast is divided into outer coastlines and fjord regions. This is based on the fact that salmon caught in the outer coastal areas normally belong to many populations from several regions, while salmon caught in the fjord areas to a far greater extent belong to stocks from rivers inside the fjord. The boundary between the outer and inner regions is determined on the basis of brand experiments and experience-based local knowledge.
