The class of a containment system as defined in Article R. 562-13 shall be determined in accordance with the table below:
Population PROTECTED by the containment system
A — Population > 30,000 people
B — 3 000 people population 30 000 people
C — Population ≤ 3 000 persons if the containment system consists essentially of one or more dikes established prior to the date of publication of Decree No 2015-526 of 12 May 2015 on the rules applicable to works constructed or upgraded to prevent floods and the safety rules of hydraulic works
or, for other containment systems: 30 people ≤ Population ≤ 3 000 people3
The protected population is the maximum population, expressed in number of persons, that is likely to be exposed in the protected area.
— The class of a dike is that of the containment system in which it is understood.
