Bacterial resistance is a public health issue. Since the 2019 pandemic, it has been observed that monitoring microorganisms in rivers provides significant information regarding their distribution and prevalence, making them hot spots for epidemiological surveillance. Therefore, analyzing the presence of E. coli and its antibacterial susceptibility pattern as a sentinel microorganism is of great importance in monitoring bacterial resistance in a river located in central Mexico, where industrial, hospital, and domestic waste flows into the river. This can be very useful as part of surveillance from a one health perspective.
