Long-term field data of invertebrate and pesticide assessments in small water bodies of the Sentinel Pond Network

The Sentinel Pond Network comprises permanent monitoring sites in 12 standing small bodies of water in the agricultural landscape in various regions of Germany. The aim is the long-term and continuous recording of the chemical and ecological status of small water bodies in the agricultural landscape. The Sentinel Pond Network aims to investigate the extent to which the diversity and function of aquatic organisms (e.g. insects) are influenced by the cultivation measures and methods used on neighboring agricultural land. The program aims to a) record the status of the biodiversity of small water bodies in the agricultural landscape and b) monitor any changes in this status. The annual surveys include the taxonomic identification of aquatic organisms (benthic invertebrates), mapping of habitat and surrounding structures and the recording of possible water pollution (e.g. pesticides, nutrients). The selected waterbodies represent both ecologically valuable and particularly species-poor ecosystems. This table contains the index of all tables forming this data collection.
