Data for: Effects of past and present microclimates on northern and southern plant species in a managed forest landscape

Compiled dataset of presence-absence, abundance, reproduction for four understory plant species: <em>Barbilophozia lycopodioides, Hypnum cupressiforme, Calamagrostis arundinacea, Linnaea borealis</em>. Explanatory variables used in the analyses are given in units of standard deviations. 53 managed forest stands were inventoried in 2018-2019 in Central Sweden. <br> ## Description of the Data and file structure <br> Site: Site number PA: Presence-absence abundance: Abundance in dm2 flowPA: Presence-absence of flowering individuals at site level currentGDD: Growing Degree Days calculated from temperature loggers at the site measuring from ca. July 2018 to ca. July 2019. Growing Degree Days were calculated for the growing season (continued period with minimum 5 degrees in mean daily temperature) as the sum of mean daily temperatures above 5 degrees. currentSnowmelt: Snowmelt date calculated from temperature loggers at the site. Last snowmelt date of the spring was calculated as the first day of spring 2019 after the last period of three consecutive days of maximum daily temperatures varying less than 0.5 °C, and with maximum daily temperatures below 3 °C. pastGDD: Estimated past GDD values for the site. The model was calibrated from data in Greiser et al. 2018, and used to predict past GDD values for the sites. canopy_gap: Percentage of open canopy per site as estimates of light levels. species: Species names of the four study species.
