ICT use in small businesses; company size, 2019

This table contains figures on the use of information and communication technology (ICT) by companies with 2 or more employees. The data can be broken down by company size and industry. Normally, research into the use of ICT by companies is limited to companies with 10 or more employees. In 2018, this study, with a slightly less extensive questionnaire, was also carried out among companies with 2 to 10 employees. In order to compare the ICT use of small businesses with those of larger companies, part of the results of the large companies is also included in this table. The reporting period is the year 2019. However, a number of topics relate to the year 2018. In such cases, this shall be stated in the explanatory memorandum to the relevant subject. Data available for 2019. Status of the figures: The figures in this table are final. Amendment as of June 2020: The effect on online platforms’ revenue has been split into Effect online platforms e-commerce for companies with e-commerce and Effect online platforms e-commerce for all businesses, including those without e-commerce. Amendment as of November 2020: In the previous version the subject “Telewerk comes before” was mistakenly included. This question has not been asked to companies with fewer than 10 employees. This has been corrected in this version. Changes as of April 2022: In the previous version, the category ‘Own personnel and external supplier’ was mistakenly not included in the sub-section on ‘Implementation of ICT security’. The figures on “Fast Internet connection” have been overhauled by an improvement in an imputation rule. The topic ‘Incident occurred’ is broken down into ‘Incident by internal cause’ and ‘Incident by attack from outside’. The topic ‘Incident occurred’ is omitted. The topics of the sections ‘Prevention of ICT security incidents’ are classified according to internal and external causes and those from ‘Costs due to ICT security incidents’ by internal or external incident. Furthermore, the figures in this table have been overhauled by the use of improved elevation factors and an improved estimation methodology of turnover figures. When will there be new figures? 2020 figures will be available in January 2021.
