A new hydrazide-hydrazone has been designed and synthesized by combining <i>p</i>-aminoacetophenone with cyanoacetohydrazide followed by acetylation. Afterwards, it was utilized as scaffold to synthesize different arylidenes, heteroarylidenes and heterocycles. The structures of these compounds were proved clearly based on their spectral and analytical data. The insecticidal activity for the newly synthesized compounds was tested against cotton leaf worm (<i>Spodoptera littoralis</i>). The obtained data indicated that, 2,4-dichlorobenzylidenecyanoacetohydrazide derivative <b>14c</b> is the most potent one after methoxyfenozide (LC<sub>50</sub> = 51.75 μg/ml) where its LC<sub>50</sub> was (79.73 μg/ml). Interestingly, we recommended to use arylidene derivative <b>14c</b> in the field of pest control after its formulation.
