In an attempted to further elucidate the role of the endofungal RrF4 in the tripartite Sebacinalean symbiosis, its genome was sequenced and compared to closely related non-endofungal R. radiobacter strains. Furthermore we assessed root colonization pattern and beneficial activity of RrF4 to compare it with those of its fungal host. We show here that the bacterium induces beneficial effects widely reminiscent of those induced by P. indica. Thus our results cannot exclude that RrF4 plays a significant role in the symbiosis of host plants with P. indica.
