The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (MA CZM), is producing detailed geologic maps of the coastal sea floor. Imagery, originally collected by NOAA for charting purposes, provides a fundamental framework for research and management activities along this part of the Massachusetts coastline, shows the composition and terrain of the seabed, and provides information on sediment transport and benthic habitat. Interpretive data layers were derived from the combined single-beam and multibeam echo-sounder data and sidescan-sonar data collected in the vicinity of Edgartown Harbor, Massachusetts. During August 2008 seismic-reflection profiles (Boomer and Chirp) were acquired, and during September 2008 bottom photographs and surficial sediment data were acquired as part of two ground-truth reconnaissance surveys.美国地质调查局（U.S. Geological Survey, USGS）与美国国家海洋和大气管理局（National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA）以及马萨诸塞州海岸带管理办公室（Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management, MA CZM）合作，正在编制该区域沿海海床的详细地质图。最初由NOAA为海图绘制目的采集的影像数据，为马萨诸塞州该段海岸线沿线的科研与管理活动提供了基础框架，可直观展示海床的组成与地形，同时提供沉积物运移及底栖生境相关信息。解释性数据图层源自马萨诸塞州埃德加敦港周边采集的单波束与多波束测深声呐数据以及侧扫声呐数据的融合成果。2008年8月期间获取了地震反射剖面（Boomer与Chirp系统）数据，2008年9月则通过两次地面验证踏勘调查，采集了海底照片与表层沉积物数据。
