Supplementary Table S1 and the associated references

Table S1 from the paper "The evolution of aggressive and amicable play fighting in primates: A phylogenetic perspective" submitted to the <em>International Journal of Play </em>by Pellis et al. This table describes species for which reasonable guestimates about character states of play fighting could be made. As described in the text, where possible, each species was given a ranked rating. For feature A, a score of 1 signifies little aggressive play (i.e., mostly amicable play) and a score of 4 signifies virtually all aggressive play (i.e., little or no amicable play. Similarly, for feature B, a score of 1 signifies little to no mixing of amicable and aggressive play, and a score of 3 signifies considerable mixing. In both cases, scores between the extremes signify intermediate states.
