This series contains the register of births at Mona Vale Hospital starting with the first baby born in the new hospital on 8 June 1964. Each page is headed 'Record of Babies Born'.The format of the register entries change over time but generally the information recorded includes: mother’s name, address and other details such as age, parity and religion and whether a public or intermediate patient; birth number; sex of baby; date and time of birth; presentation and mode of delivery; weight and length; whether live or stillborn; gestation period; doctor and anaesthetist, and the signatures of the accoucheur and sister in charge. Also included are medical details such as any drugs administered; blood loss; whether a blood transfusion was administered; the condition of the perineum, and how the placenta and membranes were delivered.
