This is a request for observing time for the timing campaign of new pulsar discoveries from the reprocessing of the low-latitude Galactic plane section of the HTRU survey (P630). We have now completed 80 % of the survey with GPU based coherent acceleration search, template bank and fast folding algorithm pipelines, and now have discovered 68 previously unknown pulsars and 21 "class A" pulsars awaiting confirmation. \r\nInteresting science can usually only be derived from a new pulsar after confirmation and a follow-up timing campaign is carried out. One year of initial timing is the minimum timespan required to fully characterise any newly-discovered pulsars, essential for deriving pulsar parameters such as the characteristic age, magnetic field strength, spin-down rate, as well as to detect any unexpected behaviour of the pulsar which might result from emission instabilities. This timing project is necessary for the timing of the new double neutron star (DNS) system J1325-6253 discovered last semester and for following up our confirmed/to-be confirmed new pulsars from the HTRU Galactic plane survey. Pulsars on the observing list here have been confirmed and remaining candidates will be confirmed in the current 2020OCTS semester, the follow-up timing in 2021APRS will produce completely new and exciting results. In addition, this timing project will allow us to measure the advance of periastron of PSR J1325-6253, true Galactic plane pulsar population and boundaries of pulsar parameter space in the galactic plane.
本申请为HTRU巡天(P630)银道面低纬度区域再处理中发现的新脉冲星,申请其计时观测项目所需的观测时长。目前我们已采用基于GPU的相干加速搜索、模板库及快速折叠算法流程,完成了80%的巡天任务,共发现68颗此前未被发现的脉冲星,以及21颗待确认的“A类”脉冲星。通常而言,新发现的脉冲星仅在完成确认并开展后续计时观测后,方能产出具有科学价值的研究成果。对任意新发现脉冲星开展为期一年的初始计时观测,是完整刻画其物理特性的最低时长要求——这对推导脉冲星的特征年龄、磁场强度、自转减速率等参数,以及探测可能由辐射不稳定性引发的脉冲星异常行为至关重要。本次计时项目不仅需对上一学期发现的双中子星(DNS)系统J1325-6253开展计时观测,还需对HTRU银道面巡天中已确认及待确认的新脉冲星开展后续跟踪观测。本观测列表中的脉冲星均已完成确认,剩余候选体将在当前2020OCTS观测学期内完成确认;2021APRS观测学期开展的后续计时观测将产出全新且极具科学意义的成果。此外,本次计时项目还将使我们得以测量PSR J1325-6253的近心点进动值,厘清真实的银道面脉冲星种群分布,并划定银道面内脉冲星参数空间的边界。
