Data was collected through a questionnaire survey conducted between March and June 2021 across 24 communities in Ghana and Burkina Faso. These communities were selected using a random stratification method to represent four distinct agroecological zones that varied in terms of aridity levels, and different proximity to paved roads, regional trade markets, and affiliations with large Transnational Corporations in the Cocoa Butter Equivalent industry. The survey covered the following aspects: A) background information about the respondent and their household, B) shea nut processing methods (i.e., the depulping, treating, drying, and cracking techniques), C) use of shea nuts (nut trade, butter production, use of shea butter), D) Network relations and knowledge transmission. Sections B and C of the survey focused on the season of 2020-2021 and included a recall period of 10 years (2010-2020) to assess changes and reasons behind them. Within each household, respondents were randomly selected from the list of individuals involved in shea collection.
