The dataset developed under Deliverable 1.2 of the AgEnRes project offers a structured, multi-layered compilation of quantitative data on energy use in EU agriculture, along with a curated inventory of technologies aimed at reducing fossil fuel dependency. At its core, the dataset comprises estimates of direct energy consumption (diesel, electricity, gas) associated with key agricultural processes across different farm types, following the FADN classification. These include energy inputs for crop production (e.g. tillage, irrigation, harvesting), animal husbandry (e.g. feeding, milking, ventilation), and protected cultivation (glasshouses). Additionally, it quantifies indirect energy inputs, especially related to the production and application of mineral fertilisers and possible gains form using Renewable Energy Sources in agriculture. Energy values are expressed in megajoules per hectare or per livestock unit and are aggregated to national and EU levels. The dataset applies Eurostat and FADN data to extrapolate farm-level energy norms to larger geographical scales. It also includes the results of a cluster analysis, grouping EU countries into climate and production regions to support regional comparison. An integral part of the dataset is a technology inventory listing 111 technologies categorized by target sector: crop (22), animal (49), glasshouse (18), and fertiliser-related (22).
