Study of the bacterial resistome in people and animals from Australia

In this study conducted in Australia, we investigated for the first time the diversity and abundance of antimicrobial resistance genes in the fecal microbiota of selected clinically healthy pregnant women and young children and also included animal samples from one dog and two ducks collected from south-eastern Victoria, Australia. We used both non-targeted NGS and targeted NGS (using two commercially available panels) and assessed and compared the performance of these tools for the analysis of bacterial resistomes in an Australian context.
