National Assessment of Educational Progress, 1981 - 1982: Mathematics and Citizenship / Social Studies, Age 17

<p>The files contain a deeply stratified national probability sample of 17-year-olds enrolled in public or private schools. The full sample is divided into fourteen subsamples. Eight randomly equivalent subsamples of 2,040 students each responded to mathematics exercises and six randomly equivalent subsamples of 1,125 students each responded to citizenship/social studies exercises. Each subsample provides data for a unique subset of achievement and attitude exercises as well as a common set of background and demographic variables such as region, community size, school characteristics, sex, race, grade in school and parental education. Data from a prior survey that were scored with the current survey are also included on this tape. Background variables and original scoring of data from that prior survey are contained on the public-use data tapes for that survey.</p>
