Foreign ownership of listed Japanese companies, from annual securities reports

Foreign ownership of every listed Japanese company that filed an annual securities report (有価証券報告書) for a fiscal year ending in 2025 or 2026, measured from the XBRL of the filings themselves rather than from a data vendor. Each row is one filer. The figures come from the ownership table 所有者別状況, which Japanese disclosure rules require in a fixed seven-category form counted in trading units rather than shares. The two foreign categories — 外国法人等(個人以外)and 外国法人等(個人)— are reported separately here, as the table reports them, and the percentage is their sum over the table's own printed total. Every row carries a reconciliation check: the seven categories are added and compared with the total the table itself prints. Rows that did not reconcile were not published. The check column is in the file so a reader can see the test was run rather than take it on trust. The register counts names, not beneficial owners: a custodian bank standing for many holders is one line, and a single overseas parent sits in the same column as a thousand dispersed funds. The dataset reproduces what the filings state and does not attempt to look through it.
