Nutritional status and health of community-dwelling elderly people in urban areas of the Lalitpur district, Nepal

Background: Malnutrition is a common problem in old people. Less attention has been given to elderly health and nutrition. This study described the magnitude of malnutrition and state of health among elderly people living in community in Lalitpur district of Nepal. Methods: The was a cross sectional population based study among older people of aged 60 years or older in 5 VDCs of Lalitpur district. Sampling was done using multistage cluster sampling, probability proportional to size method. Participants were interviewed and data were collected on demographic characteristics, socioeconomic status and assessment of nutritional status using Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA).
