The ‘Data’ folder contains the quality-controlled data from 7 Electromagnetic Autonomous Profiling Exploer (EM-APEX) floats in which 6 were deployed in a standing meander, between the southeast Indian Ridge and the Macquarie Ridge, which we call the Macquarie meander. The floats were deployed as part of the Dynamics of Eddy Fluxes Energised by Currents over Topography (DEFLECT) project aimed to observe, quantify, and understand the ACC jet, meander, mesoscale eddy and topography interaction processes and resolve competing hypotheses that govern the strength of the ACC and its response to changes in forcing. The voyage took place aboard RV Investigator between 16 October – 11 November 2018. Three of the floats (EM-8495, EM-8496 and EM-8497) were deployed later in September 2020 in the same meander location. Each of the floats profiled for about six months between 145-170°E, 50-60°S.One of the floats in the data (EM-7789) was deployed in the Subantarctic Front of the ACC southeast of New Zealand in 2016.There are two data types in the folder. The .mat file contains all the profiles as sent by the floats but quality controlled. The netcdf files contain the quality-controlled data from each float (named with the hull number of each float) which were interpolated into a uniform pressure-profile number grid. While the .mat file contains all the variables which were generated as part of the quality-control procedures, the netcdf files contain only the temperature, salinity, time, and horizontal velocity (absolute and relative velocity) data in a grid.Details of the data quality control procedures for the EM-APEX floats are provided in the document ‘EM-APEX QC manual.pdf’.
