Data from: "Tracing the origins of extracellular DNA in bacterial biofilms: story of death and predation to community benefit" (doi.org/10.1080/08927014.2021.2002987)

The review article entitled “Tracing the origins of extracellular DNA in bacterial biofilms: story of death and predation to community benefit” was based on articles identified as relevant to the category “eDNA sources/eDNA production” within the framework of a broader systematic survey aimed at compiling all currently available information on extracellular DNA, updated to May 5, 2021. To prepare the review article, 26 references were selected from an initial pool of 2,613 records [https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19437199]. This core set was subsequently expanded with an additional 96 references to ensure comprehensive and focused coverage of the diverse origins of extracellular DNA in biofilm-associated infections. Relevant studies were identified through screening of the reference lists of the initially selected articles, as well as through the inclusion of literature informed by the authors’ domain-specific expertise.
