We sequenced DNA from five brine pools and two top-core water samples, in a system of small brine pools in the eastern Mediterranean Sea (1150 m water depth, circa 22 degrees C, circa 60 PSU salinity, sulfide, methane and ammonia reaching millimolar levels, and oxygen usually depleted). The productivity rates in the brines were as high as 685 microgram C per liter per day. This dataset includes the raw Illumina reads from the seven metagenomic libraries, as well as the 266 metagenome-assembled genomes that we binned in this dataset.
