Data and assessment instruments for a standardized departmental examination in Introductory Physics (Physics I)

This repository contains the assessment instruments and anonymized academic performance data used in the study “Impact of departmental standardized exams on student performance in introductory university physics courses.” The dataset supports a quasi-experimental pre–post analysis conducted in the course Physics I at a higher education institution in the Dominican Republic. The materials correspond to the implementation of departmental standardized examinations in a multi-section introductory physics course and include both the evaluation instruments and the numerical data used for statistical analysis. All documents are provided to enable transparency, reproducibility, and independent verification of the results reported in the associated article. Contents of the repository The repository includes a total of 14 documents: Examinations in SpanishThree PDF files containing the two midterm examinations and the final examination in their original language (Spanish). Solved examinations in SpanishThree PDF files with detailed, step-by-step solutions to the examinations in Spanish. These solutions were used by instructors to ensure consistent grading criteria across sections. Examinations in EnglishThree PDF files containing the two midterm examinations and the final examination translated into English. Solved examinations in EnglishThree PDF files with detailed solutions to the English-translated examinations. Anonymized grade data (Excel file)One Excel file containing anonymized student grades for: First midterm examination Second midterm examination Final examination Cumulative (formative) assessment component No personally identifiable information is included. Student identifiers are coded and cannot be traced back to individuals. Official Physics I syllabusOne PDF file containing the official syllabus of the Physics I course, including learning outcomes, competencies, course structure, and bibliographic references, in its original language (Spanish). Ethical considerations All student data were anonymized prior to publication in accordance with institutional and ethical guidelines for educational research. Gender information was not used as an identifying variable and is not disclosed at the individual level.
