MANAGEMENT OF MEDICALLY COMPROMISED PROSTHODONTIC PATIENTS

An essential part of treatment planning is the medical evaluation of individuals who are receiving prosthodontic therapy. When treating patients with systemic disorders, the prosthodontist must be able to evaluate the inherent risks involved. Evaluating a patient's health state and risk entails a number of factors, such as the patient's medical and dental history, medication use in the past and present, type of treatment, the duration of treatment, degree of invasiveness, and urgency of treatment. Prosthodontically, no treatments should be performed before the patient's general systemic wellness has been fully assessed. This is because the existence of an underlying systemic disorder could influence the oral cavity, which may have an impact on prosthetic procedures and treatment planning.
