Ice throw collection campaign, 2011-2013 in Gaspe, Canada

Wind turbines in northern climates are susceptible to icing events, and accumulated ice on the blades will often fall off. Ice accretion on windmill blades negatively affects the energy production, and ice throws can be a safety hazard for nearby people and infrastructure. In order to know more about how far ice can be projected off a wind turbine blade, analysts at Nergica have gone to the research site to sample ice throws.
