Primary energy import dependence in the UK 1970-2023

In 2022, the United Kingdom relied on imports for 37.4 percent of the primary fuels it consumed. This was up from a 28 percent dependence in 2020, when the pandemic massively affected transport fuel demand. The primary fuel dependence rate was lowest in the 1990s when the UK still produced significant amounts of oil and gas.
