Microbiome of prurigo nodularis

There is scarce data in the literature on the presence of microorganisms in lesional skin of PN.To explore the microbiome composition in patients with PN using amplicon next generation sequencing (NGS), adult patients with PN were recruited for the study. Controls were healthy volunteers (HV) who presented for a routine nevi check-up. Skin swabs for microbiome analysis were collected, without prior cleaning, from active nodules in patients with PN and corresponding skin areas in HV. The V3-V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene was amplified from the extracted DNA. Illumina platform on the MiSeq instrument was used for sequencing.
