Symbiodinium communities in the brooding coral Seriatopora hystrix were examined to determine the extent of hereditary and environmental influence on the structure of Symbiodinium communities.

Symbiont communities within 60 larvae and their parents (9 maternal and 45 paternal colonies) were genotyped using high-throughput sequencing of the ITS2 locus.
