Intergenerational Blood Pressure Study (InterGEN Study)

This research study focuses on the genomic and psychological environmental effects on blood pressure among mothers and their children. The study includes 250 mothers who self-identify as AA/black, and 250 children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old at the time of enrollment. The study is longitudinal and data collection interviews are scheduled every six months for two years after enrollment, for a total of four participant interviews. Assessment is as follows: genetic (time 1 only) and psychological factors (every six months for two years). ]]> The Intergenerational Impact of Genetic and Psychological Factors on Blood Pressure Study (InterGEN): Design and Methods for Recruitment and Psychological MeasuresStudy DocumentsInclusion Criteria In order to be eligible to participate in this study, an individual must meet all of the following criteria: is a female primary caregiver; is not impaired by a thought disorder, active psychosis or mania, or cognitive impairment; consents to participate in the study; mother is 21 years of age or older; self-identifies as AA/black; has a child between the ages of 3 and 5 years old; is the participating child's biological mother (for DNA analysis purposes); confirms that her child will be able to provide clinical data and does not have a condition/disability that would prevent him/her from doing so; participants must speak English. ]]> The first participant in our study was enrolled in April, 2015, and recruitment/enrollment continued through September 1, 2018, when we reached the enrollment goal of 250 mother/child dyads. Follow-up data collection will continue until March, 2020, when all participants would have finished all four data collection interviews.]]>
