NRS-15998 | Indexes to Way and Works Branch Maps and Plans

This series of indexes was used to reference maps, plans and technical diagrams produced by the Way and Works Branch.Indexes are in booklet form, each representing a particular subject or location. The title is hand written on the front cover and the top and bottom edges of intact booklets. Entries are handwritten and are recorded either alphabetically or by subject. Upon each page entries are in the following format: name of fitting, structure or place; date; map, plan or diagram number.The subject matter referenced in the indexes includes the location and design of Permanent Way fittings, components and structures; drains and sewerage lines; street located in relation to rail routes; proposed routes; yards, stations and sidings. References are also given to surveys, heliographic diagrams and plans of land areas and districts. Earlier indexes from the series are also referred to but these no longer exist.Item numbers have been imposed upon booklets within the series for identification purposes. Entries recorded within items [1], [2], [3], [6], and [8] are alphabetically arranged, while those of items [4], [5], and [7] are divided by location name or subject. Items [6] and [7] are incomplete due to damage.Custody History:From 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an ‘in house archives’ consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the ‘State Rail Archives’ the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as series R210. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R210 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.

保管沿革：
1955年至2000年间，新南威尔士州铁路管理局（State Rail Authority of New South Wales）设有内部档案馆，馆藏涵盖该局、其前身机构以及政府接管的私营铁路公司的各类档案记录。该批档案的时间跨度为1849年至2000年。当决定关停「州铁路档案馆」时，馆藏中符合州档案留存要求的部分被移交至新南威尔士州档案管理局（State Records Authority of NSW）。该批档案系列被纳入州档案管理局的档案管控体系，并重新赋予编号。
