Marine sediments for determination of organic carbon and nitrogen was collected using paired funnel-shaped traps (0.0314 m**2 opening) suspending on buoys at two depths. One set of traps was deployed at 300 m, the other ones just below the chlorophyll maximum. After 24 hours traps were recovered and the marine sediment filtered on pre-combusted GF/C filters and stored at -20°C. Organic carbon was determined after removing carbonate carbon by acidification with sulfurous acid.

为测定有机碳和氮含量,采用成对的漏斗形陷阱(开口面积为0.0314平方米)在两个不同深度悬挂于浮标上采集海洋沉积物。一组陷阱部署在300米深度,另一组则位于叶绿素最大值之下。经过24小时后,陷阱被回收,海洋沉积物通过预先灼烧的GF/C滤纸进行过滤,并储存于-20°C环境中。通过使用亚硫酸进行酸化,去除碳酸盐碳后,测定有机碳含量。
