Gene database of Methylorubrum extorquens strain TK 0001

Formerly known as <i>Methylobacterium extorquens</i>, <i>Methylorubrum extorquens</i> is a methylotrophic bacterium capable of a versatile lifestyle. Able to use acetate, succinate and methanol as carbon sources, the bacterium offers a platform for producing useful products from unconventional substrate in metabolic engineering. This work sought to provide fundamental information about the genetic repertoire of <i>M. extorquens</i> TK0001 through parsing the annotated genome sequence of the bacterium downloaded from Genbank. The resulting gene database comprises gene name, gene function, and gene sequence, and should inform molecular cloning work for deploying interesting genes from <i>M. extorquens</i> in established biotechnology chassis such as <i>Escherichia coli</i> to overcome challenges with the use of <i>M. extorquens</i> in biotechnology.
