资源简介:
This collection comprises images from Historic Building Recording of a barn at Stone Carrs, Westgate, Bishop Auckland, County Durham, in February 2024. The work was carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited, who were commissioned by Ryder Architects on behalf of their client, to undertake a Level 2 historic building recording of the small, traditional farm building. The barn is identified as a non-designated heritage asset and the historic building recording was completed in advance of its conversion to holiday accommodation. The linear form of the farm at Stone Carrs, shown on the Tithe map for the Stanhope Parish Park Quarter, is typical of a small upland farm. Many such farms were established or improved following the inclosure acts of 1750-1850 which saw remaining open fields or wasteland brought into more efficient agricultural use. The barn subject to survey was added to the farm as a cow house or byre during the second half of the 19th century to house cattle for meat or dairy production.
