Several bacterial strains were isolated from the fiber-rich sediment layer of a pulp and paper mill in Kramfors, in the Baltic coast of Sweden. These bacteria were isolated in an enrichment culture for their ability to grow in different lignin-related aromatic compounds, and were subsequently identified by 16S rRNA sequencing.
