Night (A901), relief in marble, after the original model from 1815. Thorvaldsen Museum (Copenhagen, Denmark). Made with ReMake from AutoDesk. The reliefs Night and Day, which hang opposite to each other, are Thorvaldsen's most popular reliefs. As opposites, they represent the two halves of a 24-hours day, and together symbolize its wholeness. The personified Night hovers passively in the sky with her neck bent. Her eyes are closed, as are those of the children in hers arms. Her hair is braided with poppies, whose soporific capacities have been known since antiquity.
