Transportation GHG emissions change for linear emission reduction in the EU 2030-2050

For the European Union to remain within its greenhouse gas emissions budget for 1.5 degrees Celsius as required by the Paris Agreement, transportation emissions will need to be reduced by between 36 percent and 42 percent by 2030, relative to 2020 levels. For the ambitious reduction path without an overshoot of the 1.5 degrees Celsius target, transportation emissions have to reduced by 84 percent by 2040, compared with 2020 levels. The transportation sector currently accounts for more than 30 percent of total EU carbon dioxide emissions.
