Model code that implements coupled carbon-nitrogen biogeochemistry for Microbial-Mineral Carbon Stabilization Model (MIMICS) in the soil biogeochemical testbed. This configuration of the biogeochemical model testbed that allows us to investigate how an explicit representation of soil microbial activity in MIMICS, versus implicit representation of soil microbial activity in the Carnegie-Ames-Stanford Approach (CASA) soil biogeochemical models influences global plant productivity, and terrestrial carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) fluxes from 1901-2014. Key findings indicate that MIMICS-CN simulations show greater nitrogen limitation of plant productivity, which also increases soil organic matter turnover times. Results also show that Soil texture and litter quality affect prognostic soil carbon to nitrogen ratios that are simulated with MIMICS-CN.
