Ecology BIOL 2050 - Lab 2 Grassland Dataset 2

The Lab group consisted of 5 members, split into 2 teams ( 2 and 3 people respectively) to conduct two Grassland surveys. The data found here is Grassland dataset 2 that includes a sample of 50 plant measurements. The survey began 1 meter into the York University grassland, the location was approximately a 2 block grass filled area with an abundance of plant species next to the University pond. The transect tape was extended out 360 inches north of the starting position. The starting position was marked as 360 inches and the survey began starting at 0 inches. The most visibility abundant plant (species name unknown) was chosen as the target plant. The plant consisted of thorns on both the stem and the leaves, with white thistle like budding as flowers. Plants within 1 foot on either side of the transect tape was reviewed and measured until 50 plant samples was obtained. Plants that no longer consisted of a vibrant green colouration was considered as dead and were not measured. The data obtained included the plant distance along the transect tape, the number of leaves and flowers of each plant, the height of the plant, and how close the target plant was to other plants. One person conducted all the measurements while the second person counted the flowers, the leaves and also recorded the data on lined paper.
