Hemileia vastatrix isolate:Race I Genome sequencing and assembly

Coffee leaf rust (CLR), caused by Hemileia vastatrix Berk & Br., is the most important coffee disease worldwide, generating recurrent and devastating epidemics with yield losses up to 80%. This high quality genome assembly constitutes a robust resource to study the genetic diversity of the species in Colombia, detect the emergence of more aggressive races and variants (pathotypes), study molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interaction, and support coffee breeding efforts towards the development of more durable genetic resistant varieties and of integrated disease management in the efforts to adapt coffee to climate change, for a more productive and sustainable production.
