In this study, we investigated the involvement of Escherichia coli encoded bacteriocins in prophage induction. We screened a collection of 1,768 fecal E. coli isolates for bacteriocin-producing strains and selected 30 representative candidates to test their capacity to induce prophages of various strains of E. coli. Deep sequencing of viromes of three lysogens 2H4, 4E6 and 4C9 is provided after two treatments: each lysogen was treated for 3 hours either with a pEndo bacteriocin supernatant (suffix pEndo), or with spent medium (suffix spent), as a control. The complete and functionally annotated genomes of four induced temperate phages, named Escherichia phage Josas_2H4, Escherichia phage jv_4E6, Escherichia phage ue_4E6 and Escherichia phage ue_4C9, are also provided.
