To date, several studies indicated that SUMOylation modification of proteins were influenced by carbohydrate (or glucose) levels, but no such studies were conducted in fish. Several transcription factors involved in energy metabolism have been shown to be modified by SUMOylation, including PPARg, C/EBPs and SREBPs, although the effect of SUMOylation of those transcription factors on energy metabolism remains unknown. Taken together, this study provided the basis for further exploring the biological characteristics of SUMOylation of SREBP1 and their potential functions for the utilization of dietary carbohydrate.
