Megalops cyprinoides, or Indo-Pacific tarpon, are primarily found in coastal waters of the Pacific Ocean. This is a popular gamefish, with adults generally found at sea, but with the young found more coastal and also in freshwater. The Megalops cyprinoides mitochondrial genome was sequenced by the University of Tokyo to study the phylogenetic relationships between it and a number of different fish species.
