Considered one of the first national studies of occupational prestige in Canada, and is based on the research design used by the NORC 1947 and 1962 studies of occupational prestige in the United States. The data in this study are useful for analysis in an internationally comparative approach. The sampling procedures are also comparable to similar studies in the U.S. Fieldwork was carried out by a commercial firm in Canada. Topics include Treiman Prestige Scores, Duncan score, family main earner, occupation/industry of main earner, self identification of social class, work history, residence up to age 16, educational achievement, father's education, occupation/industry, marital status, spouse's education, occupation, work history, occupation/industry, spouse's father's education, occupation/industry, friends R feels closest to, friends' occupation/industry, education, ethnicity and religion, relatives R feels closest to, media consumption, attitudes about English-speaking Canadians, R travel to the U.S., religious affiliation, religiosity, memberships in clubs and association, whether R has any children, language(s) children should speak, birthplace of R, R's parents, ancestry of father's family, R's national identification, birthplace of spouse, spouse's family's ancestry, language spoken in the home as a child, other languages spoken, political party identification, attitudes on Canadian government, union membership of R and spouse, income, gender, urban/rural status.
