Rural Land Use Netherlands — LGN2021

LGN2021 is a grid file that displays Dutch land use in 2021 with a spatial resolution of 5 m. It has 51 land use classes, distinguishing the main agricultural crops, forests, water, nature and urban classes. The following files have been used to create LGN2021: Top10NL (version November 2021), Basic Registration Percelen 2021 (BRP2021), File Soil Use 2015 (BBG2015), Information Model Nature 2021 (IMNa2021), General Height file Netherlands (AHN3/4). In addition, satellite images (in particular Sentinel-2) and aerial photographs from 2021 were used in the classification of nature. The LGN2021 file was completed on 15 July 2022. New LGN classes compared to previous versions are solar parks and a subdivision of the old LGN Class 25 “Weaths and Railways” into three subclasses. For some other classes, the definitions have been slightly adjusted. All LGN classes are unambiguously defined based on unique combinations of classes from 12 different files or masks. An LGN update is delivered around 1 July each year, reflecting the land use of the previous reference year. For example, as from 1 July 2023, the land use stock (LGN2022) will be delivered for the reference year 2022.
