Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is a major cause of exacerbations in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We collected and sequenced NTHi isolates from different diseases, including COPD to determine whether NTHi isolates that colonise and cause disease in the lungs of COPD patients are genetically distinct from other pathotypes of the bacterium.
