Schiff base condensation of N(CH2CH2NH2)3 and Cp3Fe4(CO)4(C5H4CHO) (1) produces the tripodal triple cluster (Cp3Fe4(CO)4(C5H4CHNCH2CH2))3N (2) in high yield, which can bind a Cu+ ion to generate the complex [Cu(κ4-(Cp3Fe4(CO)4(C5H4CHNCH2CH2))3N)]+ (3) bearing a trigonal-pyramidal geometry. The structures of 2 and 3 have been determined by an X-ray diffraction study.
