Dataset of Gibellula species

Species of <i>Gibellula </i>are distributed worldwide. Eight new species, <i>Gibellula alboflava</i>, <i>G. ellipsoidea, G. hersiliidarum, G. latinivea, G. lutea</i>, <i>G. pholcidarum</i>, <i>G. songkhlaensis</i> and <i>G. tropica</i> were found and described from Thailand. The identification is based on morphological observation combined with phylogenetic analysis of ITS, LSU, <i>tef</i>, <i>RPB1</i> and <i>RPB2</i>. This study enriched the species diversity of <i>Gibellula</i> in Thailand and provided important data support for the systematic study of <i>Gibellula </i>in the future. We explore the antiviral potential of crude extracts derived from various species of <i>Gibellula</i> sp. against infection by human coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 (belonging to the <i>Betacoronavirus</i> genus), and swine coronavirus, PEDV (belonging to the <i>Alphacoronavirus</i> genus). <i>Gibellula pulchra</i> BCC 90969 as a potential antiviral candidate due to its ability to suppress SARS-CoV-2 replication, through inhibition of the viral 3CLpro enzyme.
