South African malls and shopping centres

The South African Malls and Shopping Centres OpenStreetMap (OSM) dataset was developed as part of the Climate Risk Tool within the South African Risk and Vulnerability Atlas (SARVA). It maps shopping malls and retail centres across South Africa using point data extracted from OSM through the Overpass API. The dataset is used to support the assessment of economic activity at the local municipal level. Within the Risk Profiler framework, it contributes to evaluating quality of life by measuring access to retail facilities and commercial hubs, which reflect levels of service provision and economic vibrancy within municipalities. Processing scripts for this dataset are included in the download package for transparency and reproducibility.
