Microbial communities associated with resin canal discoloration in mango fruit

This dataset refers to the microbial community profile of mango fruit with resin canal discoloration (RCD+), a problem affecting mango fruit quality in northern Australia. 16S rRNA gene amplicon analysis (Illumina MiSeq) shows that the bacterial populations in the microbiome of RCD+ fruits differ from those of healthy ones. Moreover, RCD+ fruits harbour numerically more abundant and diverse bacterial communities including bacterial genera that are known to cause diseases in fruit crops, indicating that bacterial species could be associated with RCD incidence in mango. This finding will aid in the targeted isolation of RCD-causing organisms and the development of control strategies to manage the RCD problem in mango.
